After a fabulous last season where they came second to Sydney Sixers in the finals, Melbourne Stars come into this tournament with great expectations. Pitch Report

As seen in the India-Australia series, the pitch at the Manuka Oval is a touch on the slower side. While there is some swing on offer early on, the batsmen will be looking to make good use of the powerplay overs, where run-scoring is relatively easy. Both teams would look to bat first upon winning the toss, with the pitch likely to get slower as the match progresses. 160-170 should be a great total, although both teams are capable of scoring more, given their batting depth.

BRH Team News

Heat’s ace spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman was tested won’t be a part of the first few games. Mitchell Swepson bowled well against India and will be their main spinner in the absence of Mujeeb. Tom Banton has also withdrawn his name from the league due to bio bubble fatigue while Marnus Labuschagne will be busy in Australia’s Test series against India. Their middle order is pretty weak. There are no enforcers in the middle order.

MLS Team News

Andre Fletcher will replace Jonny Bairstow in Melbourne Stars in after the latter was called by the ECB for international duties. The bowling is a little bit a week in depth over because Nathan Coulter-Nile doesn’t turn up. Dilbar Hussain can be dealt with easily as well at the death over.

BRH Key Players

  • Chris Lynn – Chris Lynn has been the best performer for the Brisbane Heat in the history of Big Bash League. He’s a destructive batsman that can win a game on his own.
  • Max Bryant – He’s another star player in the Australian domestic circuit. Players like him need to step up in the absence of their key players
  • Ben Laughlin – Ben Laughlin is an experienced candidate in this format of the game. He’ll lead Heat’s charge with the ball

MLS Team Form

  • Glen Maxwell – Glen Maxwell has been on a roll in the last few months. He had a fabulous series against India and will be looking to carry on his form in the BBL as well.
  • Marcus Stonis – Marcus Stoinis played a crucial role in Melbourne Stars’ success in the previous edition. He’s fully recovered from the injury and will be eager to start off well in Australia’s prestigious T-20 league.
  • Adam Zampa – Adam Zampa was the leading wicket-taker for Stars last time around. He once again will hold the key with the ball.

BRH Team Form

The last few seasons have not been good for Heat but they’ll hope for a change in their fortunes this time around. For Brisbane Heat, they’re hammered in the previous edition but look a lot more balanced unit this time around. Their batting looks exceptionally strong with Chris Lynn, Jimmy Pierson, Tom Cooper, and Max Bryant in the fray. Chris Lynn has been their highest run-getter with 2332 runs in 75 matches and will be their main man with the bat.

Tom Cooper is another player to watch out for. In the bowling department, Morne Morkel and Ben Laughlin will be their ace pacers. Laughlin has been one of their most consistent performer with 15 wickets in 13 games. Mitchell Swepson will take care of the spin department as Mujeeb ur Rahman won’t be available for the first few games due to health issues.

MLS Team Form

Melbourne Stars finished as runners-up in the previous edition but it’s a new tournament so we’ll have to wait for the match to see how prepared they are. Glen Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis were the two top performers for Melbourne Stars in the previous season and both of them are coming back from some scintillating performances in the past month. Once again, the form of these two superstars will determine the fate of Melbourne Stars. In Glen Maxwell, Nicolas Pooran, Ben Dunk, Andre Fletcher, and Will Pucovski, they pose a dangerous batting line up.

All of them are match-winners on their day but their consistency is something Melbourne Stars will be keeping their fingers crosses for. For us, the most valuable batsmen for this Melbourne Stars team will be Nic Larkin who’s been one of the most consistent performers in the tournament. Hilton Cartwright and Marcus Stonis add depth to this batting line up. Stoinis especially has been in terrific form, both with the bat and ball. In Billy Stanlake, Adam Zampa, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Liam Hatcher, they have a decent bowling attack as well.
